Jul 7, 2008 - Well duh! That was what Berry Gordy was going for with the two groups. He didn't want The Supremes to have a "black sound" aka "be soulful". He wanted The Supremes to be a crossover black group which would appeal to the white audience. Martha & The Vandellas was the group that he wanted to target towards black audiences because they had a soulful sound.
