I spent 5 years on the boat, 74-79.Did 4 patrols in the North Atlantic.Went above the Arctic Circle and became a "BlueNose", went on an orse and a deso, fired two test missiles off the coast of Africa. For Battle Stations Missile, I was the Missile Compensation Operator. Did some spec ops out of Port Canaveral FL and Charleston SC, then overhaul in Portsmouth NH. What a Ride......I still glow in the dark.I have enough good sea stories to write a book, and they get bigger and better as time goes by....ha ha.Tecumseh carried 16 vertical Posieden Missiles, each with 6 (or more)independant nuclear warheads, (I could tell you how many, but then I'd have to kill you)... ha ha...Along with several Mk48 and Mk37 Conventional Torpedos, for the first 3 patrols we carried two Nuclear Mk 45 Torpedos. The Boat was decommissioned in 1992 after almost 30 years of faithful service, and scrapped. Her Reactor vessel is buried at Hanford and her Stbd two torpedo tubes are in the US Navy underwater museum in Keyport Washington.Website for the Tcup is at:http://www.usstecumseh.com

Jul 7, 2008 - Thanks for dropping by fellow BubbleHead. Your right, it was the Mk 45 torpedo that had a nuclear Warhead. We carried two of them for my first few patrols. Your also right, things can get a little fuzzy after 30 years, but yet some things seem like yesterday.

Jul 7, 2008 - Me too. What great memories. I sure would like to have some of those fish and chips about now. I try NOT to remember the Field days, Midwatches, Working Parties and Drills.

Jul 7, 2008 - I was on the blue crew from 1979 to 1982 and did 4 patrols including the 50th for T-Cup. I was an SK2 when I left and retired SKC(SW/SS) after 20 years. Submariners are the best of the best! I really enjoyed the video. Wow, brings back alot of memories. I am glad you took so many pics, otherwise we would only have our fuzzy memories, pics are better. Thanks shipmate!

Jul 7, 2008 - Good vid!! I spent 6 years as a C-4 Missile Tech on the Simon Bolivar. Did a missile shot DASO and 6 patrols. Included in the patrols was a 4 missile ripple OT shot. Also spent time in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. BTW, the C-3 carried more than 6 warheads. IIRC the usual payload was 10 rentry bodies. And the 48 and 37 torpedoes were not nuclear armed. Those quals get fuzzy after 20 plus years. LOL!!
