Jul 7, 2008 - I was born in the eighties so never had the privilage of seeing the old town as shown in these pictures. But this slideshow and also my elderly relatives really puts me in touch with how our town was once great. Unfortunately this also makes me sad to see how it has been ruined by this invasion of people who insist on bleeding us dry of every resource and benifit the people of this once great town have fought for!!

Jul 7, 2008 - Oldham isn't even going downhill anymore, it's already there! I live here and I'm getting out at the end of the month, there's nothing left worth staying for. It's a total shithole now, overrun with chavs, dickheads and scumbags. Get out while you can!!!

Jul 7, 2008 - It is a shame that what once was a pivotal town in the industrial revolution has become little more than a retail park.
eastlancs101 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - the whole northwest once looked this way what shame the south won and all this was lost
sipaldi Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Its truly tragic to see what we have lost in our town. Imagine being able to bring someone back from 1930's oldham.....they would think they were in a foreign land! All the heritage and culture has long gone. Its really sad.
yellowfurbaby Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Oldham was once a wonderful town. Yes before it was reduced to a hang out for chavs and immigrants. People used to look smart and be proud of their working class heritage. They used to delight in community activites and they brought their children up to have respect for others. Now all that is gone. Even the once famous Tommyfield market is reduced to selling mobile phone facias and Asian fabric. It is appauling on there lately. No town is now safe from chavs and immigrants.
johnjarvo Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - I live in Wigan and things are just as bad, although the immigration problem isn't an issue as such. My town has suffered under the cursed Labour local council. People assume that living in a northern working-class town that one is expected to vote Labour; when are we going to learn. Until we vote the buggers out things will go from bad to worse; the message is: get out there and vote! Blairism has wrecked this once great country.Sad, but true.

Jul 7, 2008 - Lived in Oldham for about 15 years, been pleased to find many people who who treat folk as they find them. Some pictures pre-date WW2, the defeat of fascism which divided us by blaming immigrants for everything. Britain is an island, a large part of our success is based on immigration. Few of us have no ancestors from abroad, going back far enough. And let's face the facts, we all evolved from Africa. So lets be positive and celebrate the strength and diversity of Oldham, its a great place.
pemberton1986 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - great video,my english ancestors come from that way since the 17th century, its really interesting to see all these images,
Bontanique Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - I love the pictures. Oldham is a place of great diversity. Where I live there is a mix of all races and religions and we all get on fine. Here I have some of the best neighbours I have ever had. Crime is low around here and everyone looks out for each other. What more can you ask?
cuttlefisch Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Oldham: another town raped and ruined by multi-culturalism imposed by liberal fascists, now an open sewer of islam. Nice music, though!
