Jul 7, 2008 - i think nothing at all about feeding my baby in public, if anyone was ever to dare say anything, id simply just get up out of my chair and squirt milk in there face..then continue feeding my child. oh how dare anyone say its not polite to other people, erm frankly sod other people, there just jealous!

Jul 7, 2008 - Pumping is inconvenient and unnatural, and many babies will *not* take a bottle from mommy when they have a lovely warm breast right in front of their face.People just have to look away and get a grip if they don't like it. Breastfeeding is not dirty or a crippling life change.

Jul 7, 2008 - I have to say that I am absolutely disgusted by all of the people on here that think breastfeeding in public is such an obscene thing. Why is it ok for a woman to go into a mall wearing a bikini top that just covers the nipples but if a woman is breastfeeding and the same area of her breast is exposed as the woman with the bikini top suddenly the breastfeeding woman is the one who gets told to cover up or leave? Breasts are not sexual they are a means to feed our babies, hate to disappoint!

Jul 7, 2008 - I was very shy at first but I learned that my baby wasn't going to let me wait till we went some where private. I learned through practice how to be discreet and feed my baby.

Jul 7, 2008 - regarding reeshadow's comment "many babies will *not* take a bottle from mommy when they have a lovely warm breast right in front of their face." I guess I was one of the few babies that wasn't breastfed, not coz my mum doesn't want it, it's because I refused for some reason that I do not know. Needless to say, I caused my mum a lot of difficulties. She didnt use the pump coz she doesnt know how to use it.Question: How to encourage unwilling babies to drink straight from the breast?

Jul 7, 2008 - Well first off it is best to meet with a IBCLC lactation consultant. They are trained (and have FAR more training in breastfeeding then any doctor. Also breastfeeding in the first 1/2 hr will cut down in "struggles". A preterm baby will have some struggles simply because they weren't ready to be born yet (oral muscles not ready to suck). It all depends on the child and their needs.

Jul 7, 2008 - i am still shy about that because teenagers walk by u and say som pretty horrible stuff. and people stare at u funny. wat should i do?
dirtydiaperdiaries Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - U might want to consider draping a baby blanket across your shoulder or there are special ones (google "nursing blankets" or "nursing shawls") A lot of people will think baby is sleeping under there. Also I find people take their cue on how to react from me. If I am nonchalant so are other people. If I am uptight, people are uncomfortable with it. And hey, who are these judgmental people? Forget them and let your baby relax and nurse. Thanks for the comment, most of us are shy at first.

Jul 7, 2008 - I am uncomfortable breastfeeding in public so all the girls from my birth class suggested the Hooter Hider. Which I feel a lot more comfortable with because I don't have to hold it up or worry the baby is going to pull it off like a blanket.
turky82 Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - Check out the hooter hider.. and ooh I HAVE to go get some of those tanktop things are they supportive enough? not that the wireless bras have been all that supportive enough for me. I took my old tanke tops and cut slits in the sides so I could use them under any shirt but I like the looks of the tank top bra!
dirtydiaperdiaries Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - The Hooter Hider looks great! I hadn't thought of the baby pulling down a blanket but I can see how that might be a problem. And I find the tanks supportive but I'm not particularly well endowed. I'm thinking the Bravado would be more supportive than the Glamourmom but I'm just guessing there. Thanks for the Hooter Hider suggestion!

Jul 7, 2008 - if ur scared about breastfeeding in public then just bring a blanket and drape it from u shoulder to the end of ur baby's toes and nobody will see ur boobs. It's perfect! It's wut my friend's sister Lacey does. She brings a blanket everywhere with her baby and she uses it for breastfeeding
shedilbry Says:
Jul 7, 2008 - i loved this video. i'm going to try some of those tanks and stuff. i am so clumsy when i try to feed my baby. my boobs are also VERY large so its a two handed job for me.
