MattIAm1987 Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - WHY! Why did Ben tell Locke that the button didn't have to be pushed? Why? Did he want him to die? Did he want the island to be revealed to the outsiders?Why-oh-why?

Outrajess Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - he SO knew the numbers already, he said them back instantly lmao it's so obvious now.

metalliX101 Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - Well I'm sure Henry(Ben) wanted John to see the map

Dinodain Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - Wow I just realize something,1:Ben Passed out like Desmond when he travel through time and Ben was corcerned about how long he was gone, maybe worrying about the nose bleed of death?. 2: When the timer reached zero and did the symbols of death, the energy or whatever happens when the button isn't push didn't happen or did anything. 3: The UV lights are not there (I think) When the map was first painted and its not turn on again when the timer reach zero. I need to watch that again.

Outrajess Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - 1. I think Ben was just stalling for time.2. That's because Ben actually DID push the button, he was just aiming for Locke to lose faith in "saving the world" so that he'd eventually join The Others with him. Yes, Ben is one HELL of a manipulator.3. I wouldn't have put it past Ben to type a different code in order to make the map appear for Locke. Either way, he wanted Locke's interests and time away from this hatch and onto other things.

Dinodain Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - Well besides the Ben falling down part The rest of what you said makes sense. I rented Lost Via Domus about a week after this comment,so it explain eveything about the hatch. The Only thing I don't understand is, even if Ben tryed to make Locke stop pushing the button to lose his faith Why he risk someone not pushing the button? We know that if no one uses the numbers or used the Failsafe key,the world as we know it would be history.Didn't he know or did he think the Swan really wasn't real?

Outrajess Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - I actually watched the scene again and it's kinda weird that Ben was saying things like "How long was I..." and "Where am I?"Heh, how funny would it be if he DID time travel in this bit and The Shape of things to come in the sahara is where he woke up haha!Ben never risked someone not pushing the button. He knew what he had to do and since he was the leader, he'd have know everything there is to know about the timer. He's always 20 steps ahead, even when hes prisoner :D

Outrajess Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - "We know that if no one uses the numbers or used the Failsafe key,the world as we know it would be history.Didn't he know or did he think the Swan really wasn't real?"Not sure if it was ever confirmed that No Numbers or No Failsafe Key does really = end of the world. I think Desmond was told that and some of the others did believe that but it was never really 100% confirmed i don't think.Ben would've known everything about the swan already, he's just THAT good at lying.

Dinodain Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - Well maybe it wouldn't destroy the world, but I for one wouldn't want to be on the island when the numbers reached zero. At the very least it would have done some serious damage to the island. The only reasons I think Ben would risk the Hatch is, he knew the Island or the Universe would prevent this.Another the same people that hack into the Swan's Computer (to talk to Micheal) can have control over the Swan, so if no one was left, they could put in the numbers from another computer.

Outrajess Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - He never did risk it though. He put the numbers in eventually, took his time to get Locke used to the fact that it takes a while then made the UV lights come on so Locke could see the map and want to explore the island more. Remember at this stage Locke was happy to just live in the hatch forever more pushing the button and that's not what Ben wanted him for.Ben's not dumb enough to risk the island unless he really has to (in the case of moving the island in the most recent episode).

Outrajess Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - Also, I'm pretty sure the people Michael was talking to were just The Others. I believe when Ben got to the computer (when Locke's calling out "Henry!") Ben would've communicated with his people then too.

Dinodain Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - Now That would be a cool flashback to see for Ben. Another question:1. Does Ben know about Desmond on the island? The reason I ask this, the only time we seen Ben mention Desmond is when Ben ran into Sayid in Iraq, he talks about using his boat to get off.2. If he did not know about Desmond back then, did he plan on the Hatch being destroyed at the end of season 2?

Outrajess Says:

Oct 13, 2008 - I think there was an episode/flashback in season 3 where Ben and Juliet were watching the Swan hatch (Des's hatch) on a survelliance TV or something.I don't believe Ben when he told Sayid how he got to Iraq. No way it would be that simple.2. I don't think anyone planned the hatch being destroyed. Locke just managed to lose all his faith in it being real then convinced Des to turn the key if I remember rightly.
