SMoldie Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Fabulous, I thought it was only 4 seasons. Have the powers that be awarded this piece of brillance any awards yet?

bluebettle Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - While the show was on, the critics where generally tepidly warm about the show; praising it, but nit-picking about little issues. (Critics do that a lot to save their asses incase they make a bad pick) What mostly hurt the show was the "miss-the-first-episode-and-you're-completely-lost" plot. The heavy dialects also played a part in making it hard to follow. (Esp. overseas)The show wasn't a success because of those structural problems, not because middle America is full of brain dead hicks.

beatonjoe Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - omar, lester, ziggy, gus, snoop, chris, mcnulty, cheese, marlo... mr. prez... thats my order roughly id say

SMoldie Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I acknowlede as do the writers the show was more like a novel than a typical Cop show. Each episode seen as a chapter developing narrative and characters, arching far more slowly, than is typical. I did not mean to lABLE AMERICANS REGIONALLY, I SIMPLY MENT, that the dialogue was as alien to certian amercians as to a German or russian with english as a sencond language. I loved the fact the creators expected more from the viewer.

patmadd Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - omaits, i thoroughly recommend 'the sopranos' to fill the void. its the next best tv show after the wire

DONBA32 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - who are you talking about ? Who is involved with WW and the Wire ?

Ihatesnyder Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - The actor who played Daniels played a cop in the WW episode which involved Toby Zeigler and a homeless Korean War vet who died in a park on a very cold night in Washington.

Tall904Tim Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I think the writers did what the characters try to do in the series the whole time which is, do the job right and fuck everything else. They could have made some changes dumbed it down add more action to it but that wouldn;t have been what they where trying to do with the series. They wanted to make this show as right as they could reguardless of the outcome, they sacrificed views and major popularity for superior content and unmatched realism in a TV show dealing with these aspects of society

SMoldie Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Your right Tall904Tim, the creators of the show refuses to 'dumb dowm' the themes or characters. This show will become a classic.

SMoldie Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Apologises for my first inept reply to your comment bluebette, obviouly there as many brain dead West and east americans as well as 'Bible Belters'. The wire is a cult classic, loved by a discerning minority.

dakritic Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - First of all, get your story straight. "The Wire" was a critical success and was praised by everyone from Time Magazine to Entertainment Weekly. Did you even know the show won a Peabody Award? Secondly, the show was designed to be a novella for television. So like any good book, if you read an excerpt, and are intrigued, you'll start from the beginning. As for the Heavy dialects, did you expect the cast to sound like they were from the O.C.? It's Baltimore. Research before you comment!

bluebettle Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - You research. I was responding to another user who implied, among other things, that "too many characters" where one of the reasons that the show never got much of a gathering. I responded that the reasons the show didn't have much support (which was the same reasons the CREATORS cited) was because of the "novella" format made it hard to follow and people, especially foreign audiences, had been turned off by the dialect, in contrast to the insulting "too many black characters" statement.

darragh44 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I just started watching The Wire recently but man I love it! One of the best shows on television!Too ba dit's over, but at least I haven't seen the final season yet. Hope it has a great conclusion.

ramshackler Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - After a slow start in the first season, i went on to watch all 5 seasons in less than 2 weeks. this is easily the most compellingly brilliant show ive ever seen. stunning, the character development is so indepth that come the pay off it is of such monumental proportions that you almost feel bored and cheated by everything on tv you used to love. Devastated its over

cy2442 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Great review, especially notable is:"It could literally fart in my face and I would love it"

dolflow Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - "It is just f*cking brilliant."

bigfilmhat Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I knew the three standout characters would be Omar, Bubbles and Stringer. I called it before he said it.

Battleloser Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I know that feeling exactly. After watching HBO for a while, I just can't go back to regular television, and I'm worried because I'm running out of HBO material :-(

wigster1978a Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I'm a brit and I just finished watching season 2. I had no idea McNulty and Stringer were played by Englishmen. Am I an idiot or are there performances that good?

sevendaughters Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - Sometimes McNulty's accent slips in earlier series, and Carcetti's is a bit crap. Stringer's is totally convincing to me - then again, I am not American.

peckhamsticky Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - iv got all 5 seasons on dvd it is fucking great im watching it again its that good season 2 was a bit slow but it gives you a greater understanding of the whole drug problem in the states i think season 4 was the best season as a whole but season 5 is heartbreaking especially the last episode and the end montage i really wish there were more but there isnt its 5 seasons and no more slim charles/omar are my favorite

peckhamsticky Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - the final season is great the final episode is an hour and a half long! but then that realy is it no more boo the ending isnt realy an ending though tuol see what i mean

funkfixx Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - We have Wireheads across the pond!!!Some may have come to the party late but at lease you came....Time to re-up

tapper36 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - I just watched the first season on DVD- simply gripping.

bigfilmhat Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - No you got it right, McNulty slips a bit here and there, Stringer is "spot on" as the Brits say.
