Jul 7, 2008 - What are you talking about? Where is the improvisation in these performances? Coney Island Baby is rendered word for word except for the insertion of the word "baby" in the chorus line. In my opinion noone massacres Lou Reed songs better than Lou Reed. Coney Island Baby is my all time favourite song but I'll take the studio version or the version on Perfect Night Live in London over this one any day.

Jul 7, 2008 - Dosen't the studio version have a slightly different beginning??? ie..You know, man, when I was a young man in high schoolYou believe in or not, that I wanted to play football for the coach etc.. I would say that this version is definately different from the studio version, Thus Improvised.I will stand corrected if wrong :)

Jul 7, 2008 - Dude, if you consider dropping the first verse improvisation, then you simply don't understand the meaning of the word. Had he invented new lyrics or even a couple of new lines for the song while peforming it, he would have been improvising. How can you consider that dropping very poignant lines from the song improves it? There is no musical improvisation here, nor is there any lyrical improvisation. I did think before I posted and I stand by my definition of improvisation.

Jul 7, 2008 - Doesn't Lou look Trim? Dye his hair blonde and you'd think it was 74 all over again. I like the effort he puts into it, feeling the groove. And Quine....his guitar adds to the mayhem!

Jul 7, 2008 - This is what I would consider a Lou Reed Ballad. I will listen to him, ANY DAY.Pick up his latest mix, N.Y.C. Man. It has some of the best versions of his best songs, well worth the bucks unless you can get it free somewhere, but I wouldnt do that to Lou.

Jul 7, 2008 - Geeze, Lou and the boys really TURN IT UP for this show, heh? Great stuff, thanks for posting, and come by and see my Lou Reed clips from Farm Aid 1985!

Jul 7, 2008 - Lou sure knows how to pick his back up guitar players. Robert Quine, Steve Hunter, Mike Rathke....Hell Yeah !!Thanks for posting. For beginning guitarplayers: this song is big fun to play along with. Watch Lou for the chords and try to keep up. Its all C, F, G, D minor, A minor. And some nice distortion. That's it.
