Oct 6, 2008 - Now that I watch this again for maybe the billionth time it is obviously he had this written out.. but one of the things that makes this so great is that as I am reading one of the greatest authors to come about since written language I can here his voice and know how he would have said it himself.. just as he was writing.

Oct 6, 2008 - THE SUPREME ARTIST!!!!and if you haven't read tropic of cancer, you've missed not only profoundness but a lot of fun aswell. What a splendid sense of humor he had.. There's a part when he and his friend try to seduce a middle age rich woman to milk her and live on her money...that part made me laugh my ass off really!!!
tellmenow23 Says:
Oct 6, 2008 - And to think this guy had to wait 30 years to see his books published in the USA!!!Here in Europe -I`m from Spain- we always had a let's say, higher regard for culture than in America. Same happened with Bukowski for instance, or Raymond Carver..That american puritanism made tropic of cancer to be published in Europe 30 years before than in the states...Quite sad!!

Oct 6, 2008 - i'm from south america, and i have to say the same about north america, and even south america... you europeans are visionaries!

Oct 6, 2008 - I cannot express the profound influence and influence is a week word that Miller's writing has had on me. He is the hub, the hub of modernism, romaticism, dada and surrealism. It all passed through him, hit his pages and illuminated me and the rest of the world. Fantastic.
nivbot Says:
Oct 6, 2008 - I completely agree.. I am so glad Henry Miller found his way into my life. I sometimes imagine what my life would have been like had I never discovered him and from what I can tell life would have been much more bland and unmoving without such an eloquent writer to help me spend my nights in cerebral bliss rather than wasting my nights away watching the shit on TV that makes us robots.OMG I just noticed something.. that may be the longest sentence I have ever coherently written.

Oct 6, 2008 - I remember I was about 23 when I first read "Cancer", on the LIRR, back and forth to Manhattan. What a confused, unhappy time it was, yet, on the way in and on the way out, Miller illuminated my mind and boosted my spirits. I've read the Tropics a few times. They never fail to exhilarate me. Thanks for the reply.
nivbot Says:
Oct 6, 2008 - You are most welcome. Any friend of Henry's is a friend of mine. In my mind he is one of if not the greatest writers to ever live... maybe someday another will come along to equal him but I won't hold my breath. Truth is truth and no other writer so easily wrote the truth than Henry. Whether it was reality or not he spoke truthfully. If every person with a superior control of the English language could do that we would never want for a new sage. As it is now HE is the best I have read.

Oct 6, 2008 - He would've agreed with you.I'd take his work any day over the shit that's being put out in the literary world today.

Oct 6, 2008 - I went to a Catholic school and a teacher was fired for reading a passage from Cancer to us. He was fired, to say the least. And I knew from that day forward, I wanted to write.
