Sep 7, 2008 - Adds a new meaning to "dead stick" landing! Very lucky he didn't vibrate the engine off its mounts. I think this pilot was my old dentist, if I'm not mistaken. Hell of a landing, good job.

Sep 7, 2008 - this pilot deserves a knighthood

Sep 7, 2008 - You obviously havent seen the F-15 that flew in and landed with one wing then have ya...Good landing though. Not everything can be glided in that brilliantly, so its good he made him
U20E27 Says:
Sep 7, 2008 - Good job keeping the airspeed up on the dead stick whew that prop letting go sure gives you a good shake.
Spacedgurl Says:
Sep 7, 2008 - he is just damn lucky the engine didnt let go. There are so many Options at Reno, that a pullup will almost allways end up in somewhere to land. Though personally, he did good on this....more importantly I want to thank all the Fire and Safety crews on the ground that do a phenomenal job when someone goes down.....special thanks to the guy in the full fire suit while we start our engines......I would not want his job...wearing that in the blazing sun. Those guys are my hero's

Sep 7, 2008 - Nice way to handle an emergency, I like how you check all control surfaces for damage after the prop went. As a pilot I hope I act as cool as you if something like this ever happened to me.
Transam941 Says:
Sep 7, 2008 - Me too! You have to be cool, or else you kill yourself. I just study emergency procedures, and know my airplane. Still if something did happen I would be afraid, especially if it was an engine failure during takeoff at night. Great video and landing.
gamr4life Says:
Sep 7, 2008 - I'd have been interested to hear his radio call for an emergency (the Mayday procedure); a prop failure certainly qualifies as an emergency. I briefly heard a voice right after the prop stopped, but couldn't tell what was said. Good thing he was near an airport.
operationnorthwoodz Says:
Sep 7, 2008 - Looks like the "test pilot" was expecting the "new prop" to fail, so he had a videocam bolted down to record the predicted event. This isn't the first Lancair to have a prop fail. Better check those engine mounts, and the plastic frame for cracks.
