He must have known full well that the whole thing would be orchestrated to make him look ridiculous, especially the end bit with colmes self-satisfied knowing he can pick him off in the dying seconds with the jibe about "you say there is more than one bin laden?" which taken out of context sounds insane, and basically buries the interviewee.
