Personally, I love both sports. Rugby is more physically wearing, but football has been proven to have harder contacts. Argue all u want, it's been proven already. The end.

To me football is the hardest because it's all about explosiveness and endurance doesn't really matter because most plays only last about 6 seconds. But yeah I guess I agree with your soccer comment because I get beat up more badly playing football than soccer.
