For playing football and other sports theres a need for developing certain distance and surroundings perceptions (if you can call it that) so he doesnt need to look to know the other player exact position, less when hes right behind him. Besides those nut squashings hardly hapen unvoluntarily, even the english commentator says it looks deliberate.
