Jul 20, 2008 - I know the Blind Willie Johnson version and this was a shock. But it was always a deeply weird sounding song and had a very affecting, memorable momentum to it. Actually, this version does maintain that momentum and the discordant, out-of-time sound adds to the weirdness. No, it's not a substitute for the original but if it brings early American folk music to a new audience then so much the better.
