Jul 20, 2008 - Thank you, Sylvie! You're the best. Almost as good as Jennie (who looks and sounds wonderful here). I don't know anyone who sings this aria better. She makes it sounds so effortless, with little affectation and much emotion! JeLa, you simply rule.

Jul 20, 2008 - Stephanie Blythe also did a great job of this, on her Handel/Bach recital

Jul 20, 2008 - this air of oratorio is really hard her coloratura is amazing , her voice her precense is one of the best mezzos arround the world , I belive is so amazing like Cecilia Bartoli ... but I'm not sure if Cecilia is a real Mezzo

Jul 20, 2008 - yes, great mezzo. Jacobs was right casting her as Giulio Cesare in the HM recording. This is probably the kind of voice closest to a powerful castrato.
Njamh Says:
Jul 20, 2008 - Great voice and great technique ;) she's amazing!
civileso Says:
Jul 20, 2008 - I always trust Jacob's judgement. He always gets the most fitting cast at the moment. Never disappoints. That version is probably the best Cesare on recording.

Jul 20, 2008 - Larmore is such a good singer. She has such a characteristic timbre. I just wish this one was a bit faster although it still sounds gorgeous.

Jul 20, 2008 - This is the best live recording I have ever heard. Such clarity in her coloratura and accuracy of rhythm and pitch. Does anyone have her singing Mi lusinga e dolce affetto from Alcina?
liszt80 Says:
Jul 20, 2008 - I did, great Alcina with Larmore, you're right!
LeoSublimus Says:
Jul 20, 2008 - She may just lack the very peculiar bartolian quality (Bartoli's voice seems to me the most distinguishable of all mezzos), but isn't Jenni excellent (in her own right)! And what a beauty! Her countenance, the charm emitted whether singing or talking! That makes her doubly as delightful, if my digression be forgiven.

Jul 20, 2008 - indeed! this is one of them arias you've heard over and over again...by many different people...some with big names....but you hear one voice where you say this is what Handel would have wanted. thanks for posting.

Jul 20, 2008 - Jennifer Larmore is such a great mezzo! She looks very pretty and feminine and yet her voice has all the darkness and heaviness for these male roles. Besides, her coloratura is impeccable!
