So, I did a bunch of research on how to cut your own porthole in a bass drum head and was surprised at how little information there was on it. A few people suggested just using a stencil and a sharp blade, a few people suggested just upping the 40 bucks and buying one, and a few people suggested melting a hole. I'm a big fan of ingenuity so i tried the melting method and it worked flawlessly. Thought I would share my findings on how to. If you have any questions, just message me.

Jul 20, 2008 - Portholes are great for mic'ing and ideal for double bass drumming because it focuses the air flow so, you the listener can hear each stroke being hit. Nice tutorial, I'm gonna give this a try!

Jul 20, 2008 - does it matter where you melt the hole... does it have to be in the center or offset or what?

kikirune Says:

Jul 20, 2008 - you get more of a louder pitch. it would be really good if u had one if u were to play live shows becaues you want the audience to hear your double bass very clearly.

kikirune Says:
