Oct 6, 2008 - This might sound a little odd but this sort of reminds me of Spawn of Possession, they're all classically trained and the music they write is really quite gorgeous. Maybe not to this extent, though. : )

Oct 6, 2008 - Gould is my favorite for Bach, I do like him playing Brahms and Mozart though. I have complete Mozart Sonatas and they are fantastic. No one know who is the 'best' for anything, it is all opinion so don't worry about it. I would never trash Rubinstein or Arrau, they have many fine records. This video is just another example of fine playing by Glenn, just great!

Oct 6, 2008 - Hi there Bach & Gould aficionados, Who is going to play Glenn Gould in the yet to be relaased Hollywood classical music blockbuster?90 minutes with Dobly stereo sound. That will be the best way to dissiminate Glenn Gould and BACH to the masses.Any news on the film? The script must be finished by now.Pamta rei

Oct 6, 2008 - Shawn, I'm not sure to whom you were replying but I suspect it was Idallian. I don't know why you say s/he stands alone in their stupidity. Is there any evidence that this person is stupid? They seem to have made quite a measured comment to me. There are lots of people around who don't idolize Gould & who think he didn't pay due respect to the composer's tempo marks, etc. Yours was quite a rude and unjustified remark. One can admire some of Gould's performances without thinking he was a God
GraysonViolin Says:
Oct 6, 2008 - Sounds suspiciously like his concerto in A minor for violin ;o

Oct 6, 2008 - Is logicus logic?

Oct 6, 2008 - You must be joking nerg111 -- Hollywood and Gould!!! Two opposites. Impossible.
p0lyph0ny Says:
Oct 6, 2008 - GraysonViolin,That's because it is a transcription of the a minor violin concerto. In fact, all of Bach's harpsichord concerti (except the concerto for 4 harpsichords, based on a Vivaldi concerto) are transcriptions of various of his own concerti that were originally written for other instruments.

Oct 6, 2008 - I certainly agree. Bach's music would make a convinced atheist believe in God (that's what Cioran said anyway).Nothing above him as far as I'm concerned
tallswede68 Says:
Oct 6, 2008 - Yes, Bach is the best. Alot of the guys who came before him were excellent too, like Gibbons and Byrd.

Oct 6, 2008 - Very good. The mix feels a bit unbalanced and dry but Goulds performance is excellent. I've always preferred Gould in ensemble settings. Never cared for his solo interpretations with the humming and unorthodox tempi. Which is a shame since his final and more mature Bach recordings in the early 80s are quite extraordinary, but to me rendered unlistenable due to the humming. Still, the genius of Gould cannot be denied.
