Oct 11, 2008 - lol! I know im about to receive a ton of negative comments, but i feel like Patti labelle should be the queen, she always has been and i think that she would have done a better cover of the song

alivstyson59 Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - aretha is the queen foreverrrr !

a1d2h Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - No your'e not, you are entitled to your opinion, I completely disagree with you and think you are a little uneducated about why Aretha is who she is, but you like who you like.

pnebenzahl Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Anyone who seriously questions Aretha's supremacy in American vocal music should refer to her recording of James Moody's "Moody's Mood for Love." That, along with "Chain of Fools," "Respect," "You Make Me Feel Like a (natural) Woman,"...the queen, the king, whatever. No one can touch her.

dm3889 Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Lol! Yeah thats the fun in opinion though, you never have to agree with the other party, I just feel like when you drop the mic hint hint" Forever Young" performance, and start walking down aisles, with the same vocal strength, there's a lot to be said, not taking away any credit from Aretha, she is an incredible artist, but a1d2h you are not going to see here and tell me that she would ever produce the vocal power that patti has, then or now.

a1d2h Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Patti Labelle is a magnificent singer. But Aretha's voice in it's hey day is one of the glories of American music. Maybe she couldn't sing quite as high as some or as low, but the way she would deliver a song from that supple, elastic, mezzo soprano, like a fire whip, is unbeatable in the catalog of American popular music. She also happens to be a wonderful musician. And you can get a dose of her vocal power on the mythic double album opus "Amazing Grace".

dm3889 Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - I love this debate, i love the way you used a "heyday" to describe what aretha's voice used to be, sorry to bash, but i have met aretha and she is not nice in person. Patti is very "warm" very nice and down to earth, and very exciting to watch last, she just brings an energy when she performs, i would love to see how aretha would sound now, if she didn't smoke away a lot of her range.

a1d2h Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - I've always loved Aretha's haughty demeanor. I've always thought of it as befitting her regal moniker The Legendary Queen of Soul. Aretha Franklin is the greatest female soul singer of all time, and arguably the greatest woman in the history of American Rock n Roll. So she doesn't have to prove to you or anyone else that she is a nice and good person. Her voice may no longer be the magnificent instrument it once was, but if you listen closely the magic is still there.

Oct 11, 2008 - sorry i hate the way she is singling this song this song is mariahs n always will be!!lambie 4 life

radical11 Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - I guess you do hate it! Aretha tore Mariah a new voice!!! LOL She owned this and any other artists song she decides to recreate!

soulbro1986 Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Mariah's better...not that aretha can't sing, but MC's version's better, more soulful.

HeartHotDogs Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - She completley missed the cue for the song.. that's why it sounds like it does and the whole first verse is fucked up. You can hear the orchestra trying to improv,.

skye009 Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Of course, there are gonna be comparisons. There are gonna be negtative comments flying up and about. BUT, even though I would much prefer the original version, I really love Aretha. Mariah has ALWAYS cited Aretha, Stevie, sister Shirley and Gladys to be her main influences. So obviously, this is the COMPLETE form of flattery to her, to have her idol sing her song.

Yesstia Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Yes, exactly!

ugoitalia Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - i think it's just her personal style of covering a song, listen to aretha's "greatest love of all" she drags the tempo there as well....

sumayaaziz Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - im sorry but mariah should slap aretha 4 this

prettypatty21 Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - I love Mariah and i think if anything she would be absolutely honoured to have someone like Aretha sing a song she wrote, i would if Aretha sung one of my songs! and Aretha is performing this as an appropriate tribute! shes not trying to make you think her version is better, its just the song suited the occasion i think!

superhead123 Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Aretha has a way of making anything hers.

CLARINETECHARLES Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Shes singing totaly out of the time, no one can sing this song like my Mariah...not Mimmi..just my Old Mariah...

guyanick Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Better than original. But i still love mimi version

Lauranis Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Why all the shit over voice and who sing better..... It's fact that Ree is one of the greatest voices every. This song is perfect for the occasion but Mariah's voice is soul-less

Lauranis Says:

Oct 11, 2008 - Aretha's voice, well it's just "the Voice" and Aretha can work that voice. Could Mariah pull off what Aretha did back in 1998 at the grammy show?
