Aug 21, 2008 - I think I'm with you on the mistake issue in this instance. With some mistakes you can tell it was from a lack of preparation or care. Clearly in this case that couldn't be further from the truth. Besides, in my opinion at least, all the places he plays a note except for those obvious spots (which are really few anyways) are very beautiful.

Aug 21, 2008 - Zukerman plays the Bruch absolutely phenomenally, almost as good as Heifetz. I say "almost as good" because Bruch needs to be played romantically, which is where Heifetz truly shines.

Aug 21, 2008 - nasty recording. doesn't do his name justice.

Aug 21, 2008 - I don't believe I have much of an excuse, but, I'm always hell a nervous when I play. It's evil, cuz you're legs start giving away and they just wobble like crazy.
BRowe99 Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - I agree about Zukerman. I have a treasured 1984 recording of a radio performance of him playing the Bruch with Mehta and the NY Phil that beats all others I have heard. The Bruch is a wildly romantic work that requires a mature interpretation; Zukerman is one of the few performers who approaches the work with the necessary seriousness.

Aug 21, 2008 - 1:34 and 1:54 for me, add to the emotional intensity of the piece. I can feel in the following parts of the music Menuhin's frustration with his deteriorating technique

Aug 21, 2008 - beautiful!!!

Aug 21, 2008 - So much MUSIC in his music. I'll take Menuhin on a rough day over any of these smirking, prancing, pretty, glossy, 17 Magazine types (brilliant as they are) that we have today! So much to learn!

Aug 21, 2008 - As a Violinist who became a Violist, I can say that the Violin has a hell of a lot more competition than most instruments which is partly why I switched to Viola because I don't like the negative atmosphere. However, hearing a true musician like Yehudi Menuhin makes me feel like all this competition makes us forget the purpose of music is to have fun and love what you are doing.

Aug 21, 2008 - Never mind the critical bullshit guys. This is one hell of a piece of music. What makes me cringe are the wankers of pop and rock stars who make shitloads of cash and where does the real talent lie????? Classical music. Motherfucking socirty cannot even recognise that. Fuck off Simon Cowell
tommyaquinas Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - Bullshit, its hard to catch up, maybe if he lost his arm and they had to sew it back together he might have had problems. It might be harder on people in disadvantaged countries who've lost limbs in bombs and cannot get their arms or legs back. Or those who wake up in an orphanage not knowing who their parents are. Yehudi Menuhin was lucky being able to play so well. Others in the world aren't so fortunate. You imbecile, think before you insult the world.
Zikiru Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - you are one angry angry person. xD I'm sorry, I feel bad for you.
tommyaquinas Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - Angry isn't me at all. There's nothing more i like than to relax with Mozart blasting around my sitting room on surround sound, and also making love. I think you'll find my comments are more related to frustration at the ignorance of fellow human beings and ignorance towards greats such as Yehudi than being angry with others. Have a nice day brother :-)

Aug 21, 2008 - Peccato che in questa esecuzione Menuhin abbia il suo ben noto problema alla mano destra, comunque la mano sinistra e l'interpretazione sono perfette.
08sondre91 Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - Menuhin plays like a god. I also find a big piece of humanity as well as emotions in his technique and playing. The small bowing mistakes he made here is just something that can happen to anybody. Even the best.
haeunchang Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - the best are the best because they don't make the mistakes most peopel make. im a little idsappointed that he ddn't take the effort to practice enough to get rid of those mistakes. professionals aren't supposed to do that.
08sondre91 Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - i believe actually that in this concert menuhin was abit nervous. We can clerly hear it in his vibrato after the mistakes
PhantomoftheRose Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - I am going to start learning this soon, and I am very glad that my teacher picked this song for me to play! It is just a beautiful song, including the other 2 movements. Especially the way that Menuhin plays it. It is perfection! ^__^ Brilliant!!

Aug 21, 2008 - his right hand is so bad.....

Aug 21, 2008 - Good violinist aren't nervous.
08sondre91 Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - Oh don't say that;)!
PivotJuiceGnX Says:
Aug 21, 2008 - And it wasn't a MASSIVE mistake anyway. But it probabley pissed him off for the rest of the piece.

Aug 21, 2008 - It's sad that his bow became like a hatchet to him... and his bow arm like a heavy log. However, the music desperately wanted to come out. He was a brave man!!!
