Jul 6, 2008 - what does that mean, there must be a way to solo over it.
drumbum1010 Says:

Fungwabus117 Says:
Jul 6, 2008 - oh ok, so are there actual chords being played or are they being arpeggiated that is what it sounds like, i cant see any key changes so waht scale is miles using to solo over this song?
jvsloan Says:
Jul 6, 2008 - sometimes people just play whatever they want, to some degree
nagysebestyen Says:
Jul 6, 2008 - i think he uses no scale to play over this song.it's free jazz.
polkacat Says:
Jul 6, 2008 - he flipped between a bunch of scales, from a mixolydian to a whole-tone, im being vague becuase i can't remember but there's a vid on here with an interview where he talks exclusively about playing jazz in a theoretical way. Which is rare coming from miles to be fair. search for miles interview you'll get it eventually :)

Jul 6, 2008 - Miles Davis was also a composer, not just a player. He composed sheet music and you don't have to do it by mixing scales... oh, and btw. Miles had his own scale

Jul 6, 2008 - when asked in downbeat what do you listen to miles said "stockhausen only stockhausen" if you listen to stockhausen's "kreutzspiel" from 1951 it's a perfect model for bitches brew with bass clarinet, oboe, multi percussion and piano. stockhausen broke away from shoenberg's 12 tone system to do it saying he used his ears.thus miles also broke away and created the milestone "bitches brew"

Jul 6, 2008 - Hi! Miles is not soloing along the whole song, just along a view parts. But they all know how long the diffrent parts of the song are and Miles sends in acoustical marks. So they play along different modes, and only because they are all fantastic musicians it sounds as if it was too easy to change all togather. This fabulous music and the way miles played it was only possible becaus of the abillitys of his musicans.. greets
