Aug 21, 2008 - The comparison of Heifetz to a seven year old is beyond silly. Please. Vanessa Mae is not even in the same vague league...Milstein was a great player, but lacked the unique sound and wide interpretive range of Heifetz. Still, one of the best. Perlman another great player...not Heifetz, but not chopped liver either.

Professional musicians tune their instrument to the same temperament every time they play down to the degree of a 10th of a hertz.Though, they do make compensation in their vabrato if they do pick up anything out of tune. (Though they are very very very rarely out of tune). You are right about it not being musle memory though.

Aug 21, 2008 - @IsaacDelarge:Heifetz practiced a lot more than the usual violinists, just as the other legends of the 20th century.

azngrl987 Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - I think heifetz played faster than Oscar....

hildagrim Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - this is what you call a true musical maestro...even though he was one of the most talented people in violin history, he never ceased practising the basics.he worked on and on to improve his skills to the limit of mankind. He succeeded, and remains until now THE greatest violinist.(although Oistrakh, Perlman, Menuhin, Rabin and others were great maestroes as well, nobody ever rose up to the position Heifetz had)

YouveStolenMyEyes Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - What on earth, of course it is to do with muscle memory. I have perfect pitch, and when I go to play an G for example, I don't play a G according to what my ear tells me is a G tuned at 440, I play an G at what is relatively in tune with my open D string ... therefore my finger will place down at the exact same spot no matter what pitch my instrument is tuned at.. The adjustment of notes will change for different keys, higher leading notes etc. but that is all muscle memory..

violistaluis Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - perfection absolutely

hjdjoo Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - My god. It's absolutely unbelievable how much sound he gets out of the tip of his bow.Especially note at: 3:28 - 3:35 ish

Aug 21, 2008 - "Heifetz-management" here and there, this performance must stay in the queue of the greatest violin performances of the XX. century..

dodddd29383 Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - dude it's not a G it's an A that's pitched 440

Mlcox7 Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - i agree.flawless performance.

henzwang Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - No. It is a coordination between what your ear tells you and what your hands feel. And pitch is relative, tuning fifths is way different than tuning chromatically.

felixmendelssohn Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - Definitely the definitive rendition of this piece.

AllegroNonMolto2000 Says:

Aug 21, 2008 - hes 1000000x better than Akkiko Suwanai and they both play the Dolphin Stradivarius -_-
