Jul 6, 2008 - Hey man! He got a raw deal in the movie "RAY" don't you think? Lowell was no two bit blues hack... he knew what he was doing... another great clip from Mandy.

Jul 6, 2008 - This was filmed at The Blue Mirror Club on Fillmore Street in San Francisco. I don't know any more than that but would love to see more from this footage.

Jul 6, 2008 - You are so right, no disrespect to Ray, but he would have never got on Atlantic Records without Lowell Fulson. He was the one who told Atlantic to buy his contract from Swing Time Records, Lowell recognised early on that Ray would be a star, and did not want to hold him back.

Jul 6, 2008 - Ask someone about the blues and the first names that come to mind are B.B. King, SRV and John Lee Hooker. Lowell Fulson recorded before B.B. King. He helped get to get Ray Charles's career started, and then he set him free. Charles paid him back years later when he recorded Lowell's song "Sinner's Prayer". A lot of people now think that Ray wrote that song. I wish there was footage of Lowell doing another one of his original songs. "Reconsider Baby".

Jul 6, 2008 - Fulson also recorded before John Lee Hooker (Fulson started in '46 and had his first hit in '48, Hooker in '47 or '48 and had his first hit in '49, King in '49 and had his first hit in '51). Fulson was a big influence on Buddy Guy.

Jul 6, 2008 - B.B King's first big hit was Lowell Fulson's Three O'Clock Blues which Lowell recorded in 1948. B.B's version was in 1951.

Jul 6, 2008 - According to the book "Last Train To Memphis", Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore and Bill Black jammed with Lowell at the Eldorado Club in Houston after an Elvis perfomance. Scotty said that he remembered "me and Lowell standing toe to toe, getting down on some blues" Lowell said that Scotty asked him what he thought about Elvis and he said "First, he's a pretty boy, and the women will make him. He won't have to work too hard" Elvis got a big laugh out of that. 'Nuff said.
