Aug 21, 2008 - This is a pretty good - very good version, but if you want to hear a smashing version of this - probably definitive - then you have to check out Mindy Carson's first recording of it for RCA Victor in 1950 (uh, but not her remake at a later year). THAT is a one of real and rarely heard jewels of that classic pop period of singers after the war.

Aug 21, 2008 - I'd hardly heard of Ms. Whiting; I stubbled onto this beautiful recording. Absolutely stunning; why was it not released and why is it not known to the general public? This chick could sing. I've listened to some of her other "big" hits and they suck compared to this. It's her voice and the arrangement; only hope some upcoming movie uses this as background and thereby introduces it to a new generation.

I never had the pleasure of meeting her, or her late sister Barbara, but because of her close-association with some of the best tune-smiths that ever-breathed, Margaret Whiting knows, better than anyone, how to treat a lyric with respect.
