Laffoley's Odyssey is currently a work in progress, a short 5 minute film that documents Paul Laffoley. He's a 64 year old man who works in a small windowless room where he creates intensely detailed paintings of futuristic engineering projects, diagrams of time machines and portals to other dimensions. A self-imposed hermit who paints obsessively and who has far-fetched ideas can easily be dismissed. Is he a modern day daVinci, ahead of his time that he's misunderstood? If so, what if Laffoley is never discovered?

Jul 6, 2008 - I am surprised there isn't atleast 133 comments on this already. What can I say, I am awe inspired by each work I see, I hope one day to afford some personal works of the man himself. I am also very interested on his personal story with the implant and his spiritual understandings/experiences. My only wish is that I could read more clearly some of the samples of his work on his personal site, though perhaps there may be a good reason for this. Many thanks and blessings.

Jul 6, 2008 - It's amazing work. Since the sound quality is not so great, you might want to eliminate the gunning engine sound and other background sound effects...they don't work so well. Anyway, thanks for your wonderful documentary.

Jul 6, 2008 - I agree...truly brilliant work here. His material has been copied many times over...and of course it's unjustly non-footnoted at best. We need more people talking about non-sequiter/unorthodox ideas like this...No matter what the risk. Thank you...

Jul 6, 2008 - Amazing. And what springs to mind immediately is a quote from Arthur C. Clarke:"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Arthur C. Clarke, "Profiles of The Future", 1961 (Clarke's third law)

Jul 6, 2008 - I own both of Paul Laffoley's books. They are absolutely amazing and would recommend them to everyone interested, or anyone with the capacity of understanding needed to comprehend this knowledge. His books are pretty rare and hard to find, but if you come across one I'd recommend scooping it up and ingesting... although, obviously, not for everyone.

Jul 6, 2008 - 'The room could then be filled with hot lucite, then let cool and removed from the building.. and then launched into space..' Is this his actual wish as to what will become of his room, or is it all a lengthy example to demonstrate how he feels while he's working? ahhh.. sure, we'll certainly try our best in arranging that, Mr. Laffoley.. His theories sound very interesting though, too bad they kept overlapping one on top of the other so that he jever seemed to finish his thought..

Jul 6, 2008 - why the FUCK does his voice overlap in the middle of the clip - A) you can't understand what he's saying B)he seems even more autistic and lunatic than he really is. it really pisses me off, it's nothing but disrespectful and fucking degrading! ________________btw, the things he does are fantastic, i've just discovered this guy and it's like a revelation.

Jul 6, 2008 - This man reminds me of the mathematician from the movie Pi, except he has no need of a computer, since his brain is one and he puts his programs in the form of paintings. Amazingly crazy. I think I'm a conceptual deviant as well.
ProfessorHuggins Says:

Jul 6, 2008 - Thank you for posting this video and bringing to our attention this man, his work, his vision, and his curse. I found the composition to be excellent in that the overlap captures the very essence of dualistic thinking, in both its beauty and its horror. This of course is backed by the visual presentation that focuses on the materials he has surrounded himself with that mimic this concept. Simply wonderful!Thank you pdog2000!
